Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start using my FORA GTel Meter?
Before using your meter, ensure it is fully charged and set up correctly. Follow the steps in the ‘Setting the Meter’ section of the Owner’s Manual to adjust settings like alarm, language, volume, time, and flight mode according to your preference.
How do I test my blood glucose with the FORA® D40g?
- Insert a test strip to turn on the meter.
- Prepare the lancing device and clean the puncture site with alcohol.
- Obtain a blood sample using the lancing device.
- Apply the blood sample to the test strip.
- Wait for the meter to analyze the sample and display your blood glucose level.
How should I measure my blood pressure using this device?
- Attach the cuff to your upper arm and ensure it is snug but not too tight.
- Sit in a relaxed position with your arm supported at heart level.
- Press the power button to start the measurement.
- Remain still and quiet as the device takes your blood pressure reading.
- Review the displayed results for systolic, diastolic, and pulse rate.
How can I ensure accurate measurements?
For blood glucose, ensure your hands are clean and dry. Use only fresh capillary whole blood samples. For blood pressure, avoid eating, drinking caffeine, or smoking 30 minutes prior to measurement. Rest quietly for at least 5 minutes before taking the measurement.
How often do I need to change the battery?
Please charge the battery for 5 hours before first use. The lifespan of your battery will vary considerably with how it is used, how it is maintained and charged, temperature, and other factors such as frequency of testing. Use the A/C adaptor (input: 100-240V / output: 6V 1A) to recharge the 3.7V rechargeable Li-ion battery. After about 5 hours, the battery will be fully charged, as indicated when the green battery light disappears.
What is the control solution, and how do I use it?
The control solution is used to check if the meter and test strips are properly working together as a system. You only need the control solution if you are using the meter to measure your blood glucose levels and only when you get a new set of test strips or think your results are not accurate.
To use the control solution, insert the test strip into the meter as usual, apply the second drop of control solution to the test strip (do not apply the control solution directly onto the test strip), and compare the results with the range printed on the control solution vial. Please note the expiration date and discard any control solution that has expired or open for longer than 3 months.
How do I clean and disinfect the D40g?
Clean the meter when you see any dirt on it. You should disinfect the meter at least once a week to prevent infection. The meter must be cleaned prior to the disinfection. Use one disinfecting wipe to clean exposed surfaces of the meter thoroughly and remove any visible dirt, blood, or any other body fluid with the wipe. Use a second wipe to disinfect the meter by following the disinfecting procedure below.
Do NOT use organic solvents to clean the meter.
What can I do if I receive an error code?
If there is an error, the device will show ERR on the display screen along with a code. Refer to the manual for the full error code listing. The most common error codes are listed below.
- E-U: The test strip has been used. Take another test with a new test strip.
- Low battery icon: Appears when the batteries cannot provide enough power for a test. Replace or recharge the batteries immediately.
- E-d: Operational error. Take another test with a new test strip.
- Err 1–2: Inflation or pressure error. Refit the cuff tightly and correctly. Refer to the manual for correct placement. Relax and test again.
- Err 3: Cuff pressure is too high. Refit the cuff tightly and correctly. Refer to the manual for correct placement. Relax and test again.
- Err 4-5: No pulse rate detected or the pulse rate is too low. Refit the cuff tightly and correctly. Refer to the manual for correct placement. Relax and test again.
- PCL Err 30; 40–45; 48–49: Connection errors. Turn the device off and on again to reestablish a signal. You can perform a signal quality check by pressing and holding the RF button for 10-15 seconds while the meter is off. Wait until PCL appears on the screen along with a number. The greater the number (up to 31), the greater the signal. If you have trouble establishing a signal, move the device into a more open area or closer to a window.
- PCL Err 71: Recharge the batteries.
